Sight Seeing in Kilkenny

 

County Kilkenny offers an abundance of fascinating Historic Sites, Castles, Abbeys, Irish High Crosses, forest parks and scenic drives all within easy distance of Blanchville House.

Gowran Collegiate Church
Dating from 1275, it features monuments of great beauty and is located just 3 miles from Blanchville House.

Kells Priory
An extensive, Augustinian Priory founded in 1193 adjacent to which is a large mill that now serves at a visitor centre and craft area.

Jerpoint Abbey
Lauded as the finest Cistercian monastic ruins in Ireland with a visitor centre, exhibition and guide service provided.

Irish High Crosses
There are a number of High Crosses, mostly dating from the 8th & 9th centuries to be found at Kilree, near Kells, Killamery, Kilkieran, Ullard and Duiske Abbey.

Kilkenny Castle
The main seat of the Butler family from 1391 until the present century. There are guided tours, an art gallery, cafe, extensive pleasure grounds and well equipped outdoor children's play area.

Rothe House Museum
A 16th Century Tudor Town House of great charm and featuring a fine period costume display as well as frequent visiting exhibtions.

Dunmore Cave
A well-developed show cave consisting of a series of chambers, exhibition centre, guide service, steps, cat-walks and lighting - admission by guided tour only.

Kilfane Glen & Waterfall
The romantic era garden (1790) has been recently restored and features a waterfall and cottage ornee.
